The consumer price index in April increased by 0.4% compared with the earlier forecast a more moderate rise of 0.3%.
Housing starts for April rose by 6.6% to -1.17 million units compared with expectations for a rise to 1.12 million.
The building permits rose by 3.6% to 1.12 million, slightly less than expected of 1.13 million.
